Transformation: The Friendship That Keeps Giving (and losing!)

“We’ve lost 85 pounds between the both of us over the years”

Today we have a 2 for 1, well actually a 3 for 1! Meet Vy (right) and Regina (left) and while David isn’t officially part of our feature, we’ll give him a shoutout too because he’s obviously been crushing Keto as well!

These two besties decided to embark on the Keto Diet together in 2014.

“When we started keto, it was fresh off a transition from the Atkins diet - which we had become accustomed to for a while, so the idea of low carb didn’t scare us away. We also come from families with a history of diabetes and other chronic illnesses so there was not a lot of pushback against our diet changes to better our health. There were some lower carb products that were convenient but not nearly as many as there are available today. We really started with the most basic recipes and used whole, simple ingredients. Luckily, Asian food is easy to ketofy so a lot of our staples were still part of our lives such as many of the sauces, soups, and stir fry. We were experimenting with a lot of recipes like chicken crust pizza and cloud bread (ohhh the memories). Our weight initially dropped the fastest the first few months and we’ve been maintaining for a few years now.”

While a mutual goal of losing weight is what motivated them, they quickly saw so many other benefits.

“We’ve lost 85 pounds between the both of us over the years and have sustained energy and more focus to keep up with our busy lives. As a residual effect, our family members have followed suit and some have reversed their diabetes, lowered their blood pressure, and gotten off some medications.”

Vy and Regina have a whole new relationship with food. Not that they don’t occasionally indulge, but overall they understand how food can help them heal and are extremely conscious of everything they consume. They are grateful for the people that they’ve found along the way, and have several pursuits that allow them to give back to the community.

“We would like to continue growing our community and help teach others how to sustain a ketogenic lifestyle. We’ve launched our own keto-friendly line of spices and seasonings that we would like to continue to grow.”

Their advice:

“Don’t overthink this lifestyle and keep it simple when things start to feel complicated. Ketosis is triggered by the lack of carbs, not the presence of fat - so focusing on lowering carbs should be the priority.”
